Middlesex Community College will host poet Jennifer Jean as part of the Visiting Writers Series. The event will take place at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, October 1 at 麻豆果冻鈥檚 Lowell Federal Building Assembly Room.
鈥淭he world needs more beauty and coherence 鈥 and more folks who embody these necessities,鈥 Jean said. 鈥淲riting well is one way toward this important end. To write beautifully and coherently is to think beautifully and coherently.鈥
A faculty member at the Solstice MFA, Jean is a senior program manager at the Fine Arts Work Center and an organizer for the Her Story Is collective. She has received honors from the Kenyon Review Writers Workshop, the Mass Cultural Council, and the Women鈥檚 Federation for World Peace.
Jean鈥檚 latest book of poetry and translation is 鈥淲here Do You Live?鈥 co-written and co-translated poems that are a correspondence in Arabic and English with Iraqi poet Dr. Hanaa Ahmad Jabr. The the editor of the forthcoming anthology 鈥淥ther Paths for Shahrazad: a Bilingual Anthology of Poetry by Arab Women鈥 (Tupelo Press, 2026), her resource book 鈥淥bject Lesson: a Guide to Writing Poetry鈥 was published by Lily Books in 2021.
Her other books of poetry are 鈥淭he Fool鈥 (Big Table, 2013) 鈥淰OZ鈥 (Lily Books, 2023); 鈥淭he Archivist鈥 (2011), and 鈥淚n the War鈥 (2010). Jean鈥檚 work appears in Poetry Magazine, Rattle Magazine, On the Seawall, The Common, the Los Angeles Review, on The Slowdown Podcast, and in the Academy of American Poets 鈥淧oem-a-Day鈥 series.
The 麻豆果冻 Visiting Writers Series is co-sponsored by the Creative Writing Program and the Office of Student Engagement.
The event will take place on 麻豆果冻鈥檚 Lowell Campus in the Federal Building, which is located at 50 Kearney Square in Lowell.
